Onyx Native’s new arrivals

Why start now?

Since launching Onyx Native, one question keeps coming up: "Why now?" For those who know me, you might be aware that we've just completed building our new home and are busy with organizing, landscaping, and the aftermath of self-contracting. While I don’t have a perfectly polished answer, I can share a bit about what’s behind this decision.

As much as I cherish being a stay-at-home mom, I've realized that my role isn’t fulfilling my creative needs as I hoped it would. Being a stay-at-home mom was never meant to be my ultimate career goal—it’s a role I adore, but there’s always been a part of me that dreams of more. I've had a passion for owning a boutique since I was 16, especially after spending countless hours at The Buckle in Kearney.

Choosing the name "Onyx Native" is deeply personal for me. Our home sits on land that's part of the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), which means it’s covered with native grasses and plants that help protect the natural landscape. This land is where my husband proposed, where I later shared the news of our pregnancy, and where we’re now raising our kids. Naming the business "Onyx Native" feels like a fitting tribute to these meaningful moments and our connection to this special place.

So, why take the leap now? Why not? As I settle into our new home, it feels like the right time to jump into this long-held dream. Instead of waiting for everything to be perfectly in place, I’m embracing the adventure and seeing where it leads. It might be a bit unconventional, but sometimes that’s how the best journeys start.

Thanks for being part of this adventure with me. Here’s to fumbled beginnings and exciting possibilities!
